The only way you can actually improve your level of English is by expanding your horizons, and what I mean by that is consulting new words you come across when reading. You then have to make use of them. If you don't, that word is not in your lexicon, and, therefore, useless. The problem is that somehow you get to a level where you feel comfortable and able to communicate more or less. And that my friend is a very dangerous zone. I like to call this zone no man's land. I mean, you can get your message across; although, it is not perfect. You somehow start to believe you have reached a level high enough to communicate properly. Nothing farther from the truth.
You need to set goals in life and learning a language is not an exception to the rule. Expose yourself to an audience that you have to deliver a speech. Write something that is actually going to be read by a lot of people. Put yourself in situations where you have to perform and not make a full of yourself in the process.
If you can excel in these situations that means that you are making real progress. But if you are not ready to commit, it's never going to happen.
